music collection
here is a collection of albums i love, along with some thoughts on each one.
there is likely to be a good amount of indie rock/pop, other than that my music taste is very much a messy combination of genres.
this is sort of becoming a media log sorryyyyy
hissing fauna, are you the destroyer?
of Montreal - indie pop, neo-psychedelia, divorce
10/10 - this album is my one true love, as is oM in general. (my feelings are reminiscent of "i have loved you for 25 years, and i never loved anyone better. that kind of love, you only get it when you're young and stupid. i'm not gonna get it again.")
as for the sound and feeling of the record, it has some fun danceable bangers, but eventually becomes slightly devastating (while still being somewhat danceable), and after that it gets gay and freaky but there is still sort of an underlying profound emptiness.
(i would like to note that i am the #1 global listener of this album on last.fm, to which someone in the oM discord server remarked, "bro is the destroyer." i dont remember who it was but that was the greatest compliment i have ever received. my father also commented: "kevin barnes should have like given you an award at the concert or something man")
pet sounds
the beach boys - 60s baroque pop
10/10 - i admit i am not as dedicated to the beach boys as i am to of Montreal, probably because they are not from my time. regardless, i consider this record to be a masterpiece, and probably the best work of the beach boys. also rest in peace brian wilson!
pet sounds combines ingenious pop songwriting with an orchestral sound. it is lovely. listen to it!
how to leave town
car seat headrest - indie rock, lo-fi, does will toledo even know what an ep is because this bitch is one hour long, bro genuinely called it an ep just for the aesthetic, synth-pop
9/10 - though csh has created a good amount of masterpieces over the years (e.g. twin fantasy, teens of denial, possibly the scholars idk i need to listen to it more), how to leave town, as well as many other early csh records, feels too rough around the edges to be a masterpiece.
i do think it certainly had the potential to be a masterpiece with its lyrics, chord progressions, and general songwriting, which is why its a favorite album of mine. the interesting and introspective lyrics speak to me (not just me; most teenaged furries who are gay and depressed will relate to this record).
